Update: These New Shows Are in Trouble

There still have been no official cancellations by any of the major broadcast networks, but several have made decisions that shed light on the fate of this fall's new shows.

The CW has decided not to order additional first-season episodes of its two freshman series. Both will conclude their seasons after 13 episodes, No Tomorrow on Jan. 17 and Frequency on Jan. 25. This is obviously a bad sign. That said, the network hasn't made an official renewal/cancellation decision, perhaps to give the shows time to win over new fans when they begin streaming on Netflix (eight days after their finales).

CBS this week picked up six episodes for new comedies Man With a Plan and The Great Indoors, leaving Pure Genius as the network's only new show not to receive a back order.

ABC previously reduced its order for Notorious from 13 to 10 episodes, a clear indicator that the show is in danger, while reportedly deciding not to order more episodes of Conviction (all 13 episodes are expected to air, however).

The fate of the new shows on NBC and FOX remain fairly consistent with the previous update: The Exorcist is in trouble (creator Jeremy Slater has urged fans to tweet their support to FOX). NBC's Timeless appears to be a toss-up.

My guess is that the CW doesn't really have any extra slots "mid-season" for these shows to expand into. Successful series iZombie & The 100 are also shoehorned into 13-episodes seasons this year. I'm hoping Frequency can pick up the pace, but its second "save" plot has stalled the show.

Frequency is very interesting but since everytime she changes the past, another bad thing happens, it can grow tiring. Still. I hope it gets a second season to see where they take it.

Timeless on the other hand is simply my new favorite. I hope it gets another season. I read somewhere that its production is costly though so hope it doesn't get axed because of it
