Blue Exorcist Episode #25 Anime Review

With Blue Exorcist drawing to a close as a TV series in order to shift to a movie next, we get the culmination of the current storyline done up as a whole lot of action .The events of the past couple of episodes has built up well as we’ve seen the plan to drop a sizable bomb through the gate into the demon world in order to really put a bunch of hurt for them. Of course, it didn’t go well but it got others caught up in a bad way with Rin being a sacrifice and Yuki being taken over by Satan himself, which has lead to a lot of posturing and threatening. But it also gave us some solid flashback material to see how the brothers parentage worked out and how it had an impact on Satan overall, even if he does want to create this new world by crushing the existing one. And, cutely enough, Shiemi is caught up in it all as a solid target. READ MORE...

Blue Exorcist Episode #24 Anime Review

Blue Exorcist worked up to a really big level in the last couple of episodes that culminated in Rin being ready for execution, or sacrifice if you prefer, while Yukio went over the edge to do what he felt was right in order to protect him yet it ended up corrupting him. With the larger idea of dropping a big old bomb on the gateway that’s being opened so they can do some serious damage on the other side, it admittedly makes a decent amount of preemptive sense when dealing with what is largely considered nothing but pure evil. But therein lies the rub as we’ve seen some pretty decent people come out of that side and that muddies up the waters a fair bit. READ MORE...

Blue Exorcist Episode #23 Anime Review

With the nature of this series, there are moments where things that are obvious when you know about it become known. For instance, discovering that the roof of the True Cross Academy is actually an ideal gateway between the two worlds and that Mephisto was the one that built it. With the plans to use Rin with the gateway, essentially becoming a living sacrifice, it makes sense that they wanted Mephisto out of the way during this so they can do as they see fit. Of course, it all boggles Yukio that they’d do this, and that they think Rin has enough blood in his body to be of use in this way, but his heritage is the tricky part that makes it possible. Blue Exorcist Episode #22 Anime Review

With the revelations and accusations made in the previous episode about Mephisto, it’s no surprise that he’s been removed from his position and that things are in a state of upheaval. As we see at the start of the episode, the student body is nervous on a lot of levels since it’s a significant change in the academy but also because the academy itself has been closed off to them for a bit now. But once they do get back in, even bigger changes are in store as Yukio is put in charge of things and is even elevated to the rank of Paladin in accordance with tradition but also supposed power level. With that being the top of the line when it comes to what the Pope can do, he’s now very beholden to the Vatican and its plans. READ MORE...

Blue Exorcist Episode #21 Anime Review

As the series has progressed, the characters that have been the most interesting are those of Shiemi and Yukio. While Shiemi hasn’t been used to good effect recently outside of the quasi-date material, Yukio is getting a good bit of attention. With him knowing the truth about things for longer than Rin and being Rin’s younger brother, the two have a difficult relationship in a lot of ways since Yukio is the more mature and in control one that often takes care of his brother. With the way Rin acts out of emotion, it’s made him even more analytical and less emotional. But as we see here, there are things that can still get to him, such as how his grandfather informs him the truth behind his mother Yuri’s death, seemingly at the hands of a mob in a witch hunt rather than at Satan’s hand. Blue Exorcist Episode #20 Anime Review

With the last couple of episodes focusing mostly on character interaction and getting things settled between everyone now that the truth about Rin’s heritage has been revealed, it’s time to start getting down to business. With the seriousness of what’s working through the background, especially with Mephisto working up his own plans, it all turned much more serious for Yukio as he has a glimmer of an idea of just how bad things can get. And with Rin walking a bit of a tightrope when it comes to the True Cross Academy and his standing there since going out of control will wind up putting him in a really bad position, Yukio is even more concerned in general. Blue Exorcist Episode #19 Anime Review

Considering the general seriousness of the series in the last few episodes and the struggle that some have gone through to accept Rin into their ranks knowing who he is now, some down time for some silliness isn’t a bad thing to have happen. The opportunity for silly to happen come sin the form of a birthday party as they realize that Izumo is having a birthday soon. It’s all launched from the point of Shima having fun with his fortune telling skill that’s based around birthdays and his general interest in only telling the fortunes of girls. He is definitely a ladies’ man in this respect and you have to admire that he’s open and honest enough about it to say it. READ MORE...

Blue Exorcist Episode #18 Anime Review

School based adventures can be a bit of a drag since it means spending time in an area we’re familiar with when things could be taking place elsewhere and changing things up a bit. Sometimes they can be fun though, as this one starts out as we learn that a low ranked creature called a Gufu has made its way into the academy. What we learn from it is that Mephisto protects the school with a special barrier designed to handle the more dangerous threats, but it lets the smaller things slip through that can’t really cause problems. This lets the students handle things and teaches some responsibility. But with this threat, being more than a low ranking critter, it means there’s an issue with the barrier in either a tear in it or something else. So that puts the crew to work getting out into the field around the academy trying to figure out what’s going on. READ MORE...

Blue Exorcist Episode #17 Anime Review

Mephisto’s ability to utilize a situation well is apparent right from the start here as he essentially manages to salvage the situation by insisting that Rin be viewed as a weapon to protect the Vatican, rather than the Son of Satan in particular. It’s a very sticky situation since it forces them to use something of their most hated enemy as a tool to protect themselves and what they believe in, but expedience is typically well used when it comes to higher levels like we see here. That everything goes helter skelter right at that point with an attack and Rin getting the sword in his hand that his friends have collected, it all comes together in a predictable by very well executed way to reinforce just what it is he’s capable of, especially as it serves a double purpose by letting Mephisto take a whack at the King of Earth. Blue Exorcist Episode #16 Anime Review

Considering the way that Amaimon could mess with Rin and his abilities, particularly with that whole flame-on aspect, it’s little surprise that his powers are a bit out of control after that encounter and he needs to be tamed a bit before he goes completely berserk. It is welcome to see that Shiemi is able to ease him to a large degree since the two have such a potentially great relationship to build. But what the show does in addition to this is to introduce someone new, Arthur Angel, one of the senior members of the True Cross knights. He’s been sent to make things right, which includes noting just how much treachery that the True Cross council is aware of by Mephisto. READ MORE...
