Chicago PD Recap 11/15/17: Season 5 Episode 7 “Care Under Fire”

Tonight’s Chicago PD begins with Adam Rusek (Patrick John Flueger) playing a game with his nephew when he is paged by Denny Woods (Mykelti Williamson). Rusek goes to the Intelligence Unit (IU), into Sgt Hank Voight’s (Jason Beghe) office where he is supposed to plant a bug, but refuses to do so at the last minute. He hears moaning and finds Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) asleep on the couch in the next room; when he wakes him up, he is very combative until he realizes who it is. Jay wonders why Rusek is there so early and fends off questioning saying he was only having a bad dream. Jay is parked outside a restaurant, seemingly avoiding calls until several reports of a male with a gun in a park come in, he calls it in that he is coming in as a plain-clothed officer. Jay arrives, as adults and children are running from the building, he tells the CPD to get a perimeter set up and races inside. He finds out the shooter is on the second floor, but he throws a flash grenade at Jay and manages to get to the stairs. Jay calls in that they have gone down, as he walks past Theresa, a student at the local university. READ MORE...

Chicago P.D. Review: Halstead Makes A Bad Call Post-Lindsay

Since Sophia Bush’s exit from Chicago P.D., the big question has been how those closest to Erin Lindsay are coping with her loss. At the top of that list is her ex-boyfriend Jay Halstead. For awhile, it seemed as if he was doing well. But he says something in this week’s episode that makes us realize how deeply he feels the loss. "I think you just fill up whatever’s missing with something else." In context, Halstead is referring to his time in combat, but it goes deeper than that. Halstead’s nightmares have returned, and they’ve become such that he sleeps where he can, when he can. When he isn’t working, he’s trolling the streets for the next case. Either he can’t go home, or he can’t sit still. Perhaps it’s both. Either way, Lindsay’s departure triggered something in him; something that may very well get him in trouble if he’s not careful. Chicago PD Season 5 Episode 7 Review: Care Under Fire

Halstead is one of my favorite characters so seeing him suffer on Chicago PD Season 5 Episode 7 was upsetting. I often wonder how the members of Intelligence do what they do on a regular basis and then go home to sleep peacefully through the night. The simple answer is they don't. These officers have seen and been through way too much in both their professional and personal lives to be able to just tap out. Being a cop -- especially a good one -- isn't a 9 to 5; they aren't as lucky as we are to just stop thinking about work when they leave for the day.  ...Read More...   https://www.tvfanatic.com/2017/11/chicago-pd-season-5-episode-7-review-care-under-fire/

Chicago P.D. Review: Upton’s Past Revealed, Plus [SPOILER] Is The Mole

Little is known about the newest recruit to Chicago P.D., Hailey Upton. She came onto the scene at the end of the fourth season a little strong, but in need of a fresh start. She was sharp, loyal, and knew how to take direction, so Voight didn’t feel the need to pry into her life. This week, the reason Upton joined Intelligence catches up to her. The case becomes much more complicated than any of the outside parties could see, and Upton has the key. Even deeper than all of the personal complications, there is a lot of bargaining happening in order to keep the city safe. Bargaining is a dangerous game, because it could easily turn into a betrayal. There’s a weak link in Intelligence, it just isn’t Upton. A murder occurs on the South side, and unfortunately, it isn’t always given priority. A murder occurs on the North side a few blocks away from a Policeman’s fundraiser? It’s all hands on deck. This is especially true because the case involves the cooperation of two different departments. Even a normal, upstanding family man can be driven to do something illegal if he is desperate enough. For example, an out-of-work lawyer who deals drugs on the side to make ends meet. Because this is a narcotics case, Voight recruits Sean McGrady, who just happens to have a shady history with Upton. Upton is professional, not really giving much detail on their past at first. Upton tries to keep McGrady’s confidence, even after McGrady is killed. His informant tells Intelligence that McGrady had a gambling problem, which Upton backs up. This is the real reason that Upton left her old squad. McGrady blocked and criticized her at every turn because she saw through his facade. READ MORE...

Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Hailey Upton (Tracey Spiridakos), talk a little bit until she notices Sgt Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) talking to Sgt Sean McGrady (Wil Traval), a cop she worked with in narcotics; she says he is a good cop but Jay notices that she hesitates. She says he is very competitive, always looking for an angle and it drove her nuts. Hailey catches McGrady shoving a man, who claims it was just a misunderstanding but she can’t question it any further as Jay says they have shots fired and an active shooter. READ MORE...

Chicago PD Season 5 Episode 6 Review: Fallen

Things are never what they seem, especially in Chicago PD Season 5 Episode 6 . The death of Vice SergeantMcGrady was supposed to be the Upton-centric story we've been waiting for this season. Unfortunately, we didn't get much insight into her past or who she was before Intelligence. When Intelligence is tasked with investigating the murder of a family on the North Side, Voight assigns Upton to work with McGrady, a cop with whom she clearly has some history. When she tries to bring up that she doesn't feel comfortable working with him because of their previous "beef,"Voight bluntly tells her to "work it out."   ...Read More...   https://www.tvfanatic.com/2017/11/chicago-pd-season-5-episode-6-review-fallen/

Chicago PD Season 5 Episode 5 Review: Home

There's a lot to unpack on Chicago PD Season 5 Episode 5 . The episode aptly titled "home" really hits you in the feels. The focus wasn't the usual gang violence or shootings that we've come to expect from Chicago. No; it was much darker. Don't get me wrong, every storyline is compelling and equally as horrifying but there's just something about child trafficking that really makes my skin crawl. It's sickening to even think that this actually happens in our world.   ...Read More... https://www.tvfanatic.com/2017/10/chicago-pd-season-5-episode-5-review-home/

Chicago PD Season 5 Episode 4 Review: Snitch

Sometimes, people don't talk because they are afraid of getting deported. On Chicago PD Season 5 Episode 4 they're afraid of being killed for being a "snitch." Ruzek and the rest of the Intelligence unit are putting in some mad overtime as they work an undercover assignment, which goes south when Ruzek is made.   ...Read More...   https://www.tvfanatic.com/2017/10/chicago-pd-season-5-episode-4-review-snitch/
