It's not the kind of outright disaster you can hate-watch with glee, nor is it a joyful success. Here's what it is: It's a lot of very good actors being asked to do silly things. It's a milder and slightly embarrassing romance between the two leads (Abigail Breslin and Colt Prattes). It's a lot more of the backstory of the supporting characters, for better or for worse. And it's all sandwiched between a truly bizarre and unnecessary time jump involving the musical theater version of Dirty Dancing. Honestly, don't even watch these intro and outro segments. All that said, (young?) people who've never seen the original film could really enjoy this, as could fans of individual performers, like Breslin, Debra Messing, and, believe it or not, Nicole Scherzinger, who low-key steals the whole thing as Penny.

I wasn't prepared. I thought this movie was going to be a continuation, or something like that. This re-make of the classic never even got off the mark. There are no Jennifer's and Patrick's left out there. Leave our memories intact please...

I want to start out by saying that I saw the original movie in the theater when it first premiered. Patrick Swayze was the be all and end all of my generation. I even took my daughter to see the movie when the brought it back for it's 30th anniversary. I was amazed at how packed the place was with people from all generations.

I was concerned about the tv adaptation. I honestly only made it to the part where she ruined the line about carrying the watermelon. I found it cheesy and that the actors were trying to hard to live up to the iconic status of this movie. This is a hard pass for me. Don't waste two hours of your life on it. I am sorry I gave it 20 minutes.
