Foyle's War Reviews & Ratings

120 minutes

Foyle's War is a British detective drama television series set during and shortly after World War II, created by screenwriter and author Anthony Horowitz, and commissioned by ITV after the long-running series Inspector Morse came to an end in 2000. It has been broadcast on ITV since 2002. It was cancelled in 2007 by the then director of programmes, Simon Shaps, but positive public demand and a number of complaints about the cancellation prompted ITV to revive the series after its sixth series proved to be a ratings success.

this show deserves your attention!!! the WWII : everybody is damaged, everybody's lost something, someone;they don't know if they're going to be alive tommorrow,if they will have a home or food.a lot of people turn to crime...and there is Foyle - honest with a strong sense of justice and moral.there is no plot, that he can't unravel. I was devostated when they announced the cancelation... :(

The series is notable for its attention to historical detail, and the drama is frequently moved along by historical events of the Second World War. Creator Anthony Horowitz considered that to honor the veterans of the war it was important to get the details correct. As the series progressed, Horowitz became more interested in the "murder mystery" format than the portrayal of history and exploration of the Home Front.

The Imperial War Museum is credited in an advisory capacity in some episodes. The series' creators took great trouble over sets, props and costumes.

A great series and I enjoyed it tremendously. As I always point out, the British do period pieces better than anybody and this is a period of their history no one can tell better. And the last 3 seasons deal with the period after the war. Maybe more fascinating and informative than the period during the war.

Sorry to see it go, but all good things must come to an end.
