What did they just do??? This series was far too excellent to have such crappy writing for the last two episodes. Shame... shame... shame.

Well, it's over, and if you've read my other reviews of this season, you should know I'm not shocked that the ending was terrible. Some friends of mine had a bet about who'd be the "shocker" to end up on the throne in the end. No one was right, and the guesses ranged from Gendry (he does have some claim to it) to a surprise twist that Tyrion is a Targaryen and he'd get the spot--there have been theories about this for ages. But "Bran the Broken"? In a way, I think it's a metaphor for the show: The writers crippled themselves with bad choices, yet continued to drag themselves through the story, but eventually they "ascended" and totally stopped caring about their own show until the very end when they give us this unsatisfying ending with all the smugness of a show that still thinks it is The Old Gods' gift to the world. "Bran the Broken"--bet you didn't see that coming! It was terrible. And don't doubt for a second that The Last Dragon (so glad I get to make that reference) went off and snacked on Dany's corpse in private. Or fed her to some dragon babies hidden on some distant island--also plenty of theories about incest-born dragons all over the place now thanks to Dany's Three. But who cares? Because it's over and we'll have to see if the spin-offs are going to further the story elsewhere or just be set in the same universe. I don't think I'll watch them, actually.
