Lethal Weapon Review: Reboot Scales Down Movie Formula for TV Screen

In a fall TV season well-stocked with blasts from the past, programmers clearly hope that familiarity doesnt breed contempt. Maybe no ones hopes are higher than the folks at Fox, whose Lethal Weapon reboot of the 80s/90s-era Mel Gibson - Danny Glover movie franchise is being marketed as a centerpiece for the season. The original 1987 film, written by Shane Black and directed by Richard Donner, was a template for buddy-cop films to come, generating three sequels and huge box office. Lethal Weapon - "Pilot" Review

Cutting to the chase, I enjoyed the Lethal Weapon pilot more than I anticipated. Like, I assume, most of you, I was -- and for the most part still am -- against the rebooting of Lethal Weapon. I'm against most reboots just based on principal, in general, but I can still be wrong - like with Hannibal and Fargo (even though Fargo acts more like a spiritual adaptation/sequel).
