Rizzoli & Isles Review: The Exploding Heart

What's worse than a broken heart? It seems Chelsea, the murder victim this week, found out on  Rizzoli & Isles Season 5 Episode 5 . As Dr. Maura Isles described it, the poor woman woke up to what felt like her heart exploding in her chest. I had no idea an air embolism could be that painful or last several minutes.  Read more:  //

Rizzoli & Isles Season 5 Review “Knockout”

On the latest episode of  “Rizzoli & Isles,”  we saw how change for the better sometimes isn’t always a good thing- at least in some people’s eyes, in “Knockout.” The episode told the story of Judith, a woman who, after having been overweight and going unnoticed all her life, finally chose to do something about it, and joined a boxing workout outfit called “Tough Broad,” getting into the best shape of her life at the ripe age of 40. People noticed…and so did her husband, and not in a good way, as we eventually discovered. This was a quirky one, between the oddball method of execution adopted by the jealous hubby and Chang’s “die-o-ramas” and “fruitopsies” and Isles’ wild vacation getaway at the M.E. convention, complete with “autopsy jeopardy” and “Dr. Pecker”! Not to mention Korsak making like Art Garfunkel to his former singing partner’s grandson’s Paul Simon! (How about that old-school pic we saw of him in folkie mode?! Worth the price of admission for this episode alone, IMHO.) Then there was the creepy sub-M.E. with the tuft of neck hair- eep! Read More... //

Rizzoli & Isles Season 5 Review “The Best Laid Plans”

On the latest episode of  “Rizzoli & Isles,”  it was straight-up #richpeopleproblems in “The Best Laid Plans,” as an rich old woman with cancer was inexplicably killed- even though she was on the verge of dying already. What the what? Naturally, it was up to Rizzoli & isles to get to the bottom of this oddball case. Right out the gate, this was a fun episode, with Rizzoli clearly reveling in making fun of the idle rich every step of the way. Between gleefully using the unnecessarily massive door knocker to lamenting her lack of a monocle, Rizzoli was definitely having a field day with all of this, and it was a joy to see Angie Harmon doing the same. Rizzoli & Isles Review: Bug Out!

The review for  Rizzoli & Isles Season 5 Episode 4  was almost titled  Zoinks !  or  Ruh-Roh  due to all of the Scooby Doo references. Much like Jane, I was a big fan of the show as a kid. I was just waiting for the Mystery Machine to turn the corner.    And Maura is definitely the Velma of the group. But "Bug Out" seemed the more appropriate title given the subject matter. I also found it morbidly amusing that every time someone bugged out to their fallout shelter, they ended up dead. It gave a whole new twist to the doomsday scenario.  I was a little surprised how seriously Frankie took to the survivalist philosophy, as he explained in his crude but possibly accurate  Rizzoli & Isles quote … Read More... //

Rizzoli & Isles Season 5 Review “Doomsday”

On the latest episode of  “Rizzoli & Isles,”  it was Armageddon time, on “Doomsday.” Okay, not really, but it’s only natural that the show would want to get in on all the apocalyptic madness happening all over the place lately. (See also the shows “The Walking Dead,” “The 100,” “Defiance,” and “Dominion,” among others; to say nothing of films like  “Snowpiercer”  and  “The Rover”  or franchises like  “Divergent” and  “The Hunger Games.” ) In this case, we saw the many answers people had for the question: how exactly will the world end? Would it be global warming/climate change? Zombie apocalypse? Robot and/or computer take-over, a la “The Terminator” or “2001: A Space Odyssey”? In this case, the main victim thought it was going to be an airborne virus, possibly set off by America’s enemies. He wasn’t entirely off the mark, in his case, at least, as he did indeed end up killed by a deadly gas. Unfortunately for him, it was in the very enclosure that was meant to save him from such real-world occurrences. Not exactly money well spent, needless to say. Read More... //

Rizzoli & Isles Review: Not Worth Killing Over

There was something so very sad about  Rizzoli & Isles Season 5 Episode 3 . Perhaps it was because the victims all believed they'd finally caught a break and were going to turn their lives around... only to find out it was "Too Good to Be True." Greg, the killer, somehow believed he was owed, so he hunted these men and then murdered them for their meager possessions. For all of the psychology behind the effects of watching his father's farm go bankrupt, I think Jane was right, the guy was just a selfish, greedy, twisted ass. Read More... //

Rizzoli & Isles Review: A Good Cry

This is what  Rizzoli & Isles Season 5 Episode 2  was for both the characters and the audience: a good cry, as I know I couldn't hold back the tears at the funeral. Most fans knew this day was coming after the tragic death of actor Lee Thompson Young last fall. Of course, knowing this episode would arrive didn't make it any easier to watch.  Read More... //

Rizzoli & Isles Season 5 Review “Too Good to Be True”

On the latest episode of  “Rizzoli & Isles,”  the team discovered a case that involved a killer who made promises that were “Too Good to Be True.” It all started with a murder in the woods, which led to another murder, then another. All of which seemed to have one thing in common: the promise of a job in the country on a farm, where one could get away from it all. Well, that and the fact that the hires needed to be relatively un-tethered to society and the types that could potentially go unmissed for extended periods of time, if not forever. Unfortunately for the victims, it was a one way ticket to nowhere, not a steady job. Read More... //

Rizzoli & Isles Season 5 Review “Goodbye”

On the latest episode of  “Rizzoli & Isles,”  we finally got to give a beloved cast member and character the send-off he so richly deserved, in the aptly-titled “Goodbye.” As we all know by now, actor Lee Thompson Young, aka Detective Barry Frost, was lost to us when he sadly took his own life late last year. Understandably, the show took a breather, not sure how to proceed in light of this abrupt news, which came while the show was still shooting its fourth season. Ultimately, the rest of the season was finished and aired, but the character’s fate was left hanging in the air for the time being, as the writers decided how to handle it best. Read More... //

Rizzoli & Isles Review: Mother's Instinct

It's the mother of all cases on  Rizzoli & Isles Season 5 Episode 1 ,  as a young parent is stabbed 17 times while jogging in the park with her baby son.  The missing child hits home for a newly pregnant Jane, who is being plagued by crazy pregnancy dreams. That nightmare was fairly intense. You could feel both the fear and the determination rolling off of Jane in waves…until she opens that door and sees herself in her mother's robe holding a baby. Then she's completely confused.  Read More... //
