Secrets & Lies is an apt title for this show; it lives up to that name in a big way with plenty of intrigue, drama, and yes - secrets and lies. Any drama show and even real life could tell you that small, close-knit suburban communities are not all they appear to be on the surface. People will always gossip about their friends and neighbours, and even the closest of pals will backstab each other without proof if it makes them look like a better person in the eyes of the public. This show covers all of that fantastically, with great acting to boot. I haven't watched the Aussie show it's based on, so I can't speak to whether it holds the same intrigue for those who watched the original, but without having seen it, I can say that this is damn good on its own.

20 minutes into episode one and all I can think is, "this show wants to be 'Gone Girl' sooo badly!" It's laughable. Having characters speak in code and half sentences does not make for mystery, just annoyance. The brilliance of "Gone Girl" was that we KNEW he was guilty when he wasn't, so here, we KNOW he's innocent and then he won't be? That's dumb. I might force myself through the last 20 minutes, but idk... You want surprises, twists, reveals and deep characters? Try "The Missing."

I didn't watch Season One but because I like Michael Ealy I decided to give it a shot. I didn't last very long. I felt that the characters weren't interesting.

Juliet Lewis is playing a hard nosed cop and doing a fabulous job of it.

The American version expanded on the Australian one, more elaborate story lines for some characters and a seccond season. Season 2 saw a new chapter with new characters bar one, the cop, played by Juliette Lewis, definitely a different role for her.
