The only thing worse than the writing is the acting. Sorry guys, I was excited by the premise but the execution is not up to snuff. I'm guessing there are a lot of 15 year old girls out there that are going to love it though.

What the ever loving fuck is this shit? The acting is HORRIBLE. I'm extremely disappointed as I love Mortal Instruments books and the movie, but this just makes me what to gouge my eyes out. I struggled to even make it through the first episode and definitely won't be watching the rest. GOOD LORD.

Well, that was underwhelming... Maybe it's because I utterly adore the books, and I generally tend to be quite anal when it comes to book adaptations, but this first episode fell short in just about every way. There are changes that are so unnecessary, in fact it appears those changes were made simply for the sake of differing from the books. Book nerd here, DO NOT DO THAT! The institute is a hightech batcave teeming with Shadowhunters. Luke turned into a cop. Valentine is hiding in Chernobyl? What the actual fuck? I mean, really?
The cast, while obviously quite attractive, didn't win me over either. I'm gonna give this a few ore eps, otherwise it's goodbye.

Oh my god. I could not be more disappointed. The writing, the acting, the design... everything is terrible.
Plus, so many liberties have been taken with the original story; I can't stand it.

I only made it 15 minutes into the show before I decided that finishing my laundry would be more exciting than watching the show.

Review update:
My best friend cannot stop raving about this show, so I decided to give it another chance. Once I got past the first episode things everything started to click for me. Now Alec is my favorite character.

I've just watched the first episode and for the most part, I enjoyed it, I'll keep watching, for now. Yes, there's a lot of exposition and not every scene is written *that* well but for the most part I thought the introduction of different elements as well as the back-story from the novels by Cassandra Clare was done fairly well, but what do I know! There is a lot to pack in and if they want to be original then... :)

The books are great, even though I am not their target demographic I really enjoy them.

Yes, it doesn't yet have the writing, acting (and will never have the budget) of the movies. We have grown accustomed to tv being as good, if not better than movies....but this is just a first episode so I usually just expect cast and crew to be getting used to their characters and the set. so I hope to see it get better and better as time passes.

I'm coming late to the party as the season is on hiatus, so it might be time for a binge watch, that depends how the next few episodes go. :)
