Rachel Bilson goes from girl next door to wacky crime-fighter

Rachel Bilson has made a career out of playing the girl-next-door types in shows including The O.C. and Hart of Dixie. Now, shes turning over a new leaf in ABCs comic procedural Take Two. Its my first procedural, says Bilson, 36. I love that kind of stuff; I get into any show thats a mystery....   ...Read More...

The Most Important Shows on TV: Week of June 18, 2018

Which TV series will your friends (and the entire internet) be talking about this week? Stay informed — or at least be able to fake it — with SideReel's weekly guide to The Most Important Shows on TV.   Take Two (Series Premiere) Thursday at 8 pm on ABC Why: In Take Two , disgraced former TV detective Sam Swift (Rachel Bilson) teams up with private investigator Eddie Valetik (Eddie Cibrian) to research a future role. As always happens on these sorts of shows, they have a love/hate relationship, and Swift ends up proving herself to be useful. Does that spoil anything? No. Do you think that sounds a little bit like Castle ? Of course it does! Take Two is created by two Castle showrunners, Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller. ABC is probably still kicking themselves for unceremoniously ending the wildly successful Castle (seriously, they really botched things with star Stana Katic), so since they can't have Castle , they've cloned it. Take Two ! I've long been a fan of Rachel Bilson (and I will say with no embarrassment that I loved Hart of Dixie and everyone should watch it) and though I associate Eddie Cibrian mostly with Real Housewives drama , he certainly has a long-running career of his own (and is undeniably handsome). The show seems like a solid summer bet, although its longer term success will hinge on the chemistry of the leads: we only want to watch the same thing over and over again if we really love the two of them together. Prepare to talk about: If you're ready to forgive ABC for that Castle debacle; what we think about Bilson and Cibrian's onscreen chemistry; how many shows use some version of this formula.   Marvel's Luke Cage (Season Premiere) Friday at 3 am on Netflix Why: Luke Cage was definitely one of the better received Marvel shows on Netflix, so fans have been eagerly awaiting its second season. Can it avoid the sophomore slump that so many of its Netflix Marvel cousins could not? As to what we can expect in this second season, Luke Cage is now a beloved local celebrity in Harlem instead of a fugitive. There will be both old and new villains, with Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard) returning, as well as Hernan "Shades" Alvarez (Theo Rossi), who has now joined forces with Mariah. Additionally, Mustafa Shakir joins the cast as major new villain Bushmaster, also serving as a rival to Mariah and her family. Outside of villains, breakout character Misty Knight (Simone Messick) also returns, with a sweet new cybernetic arm (she lost her hand in The Defenders )! This brings her more in line with her comic-book counterpart, and also allows for a lot of cool fight scenes, as a cybernetic arm = super strength. We also like seeing another powerful woman in the universe. Prepare to talk about: Did anyone else see Mike Colter on The Good Fight this season (yes, watch it); where this series falls on the MCU timeline; which other Marvel characters pop in.   Westworld (Season Finale) Sunday at 9 pm on HBO Why: Wow, ten weeks have certainly flown by. Season 2 has been a bit more polarizing than Season 1; everyone has not loved it, and a lot of that has come from how very confusing it has been. So, we can only hope that this finale will continue to answer many of our unanswered questions. Will any humans turn out to be hosts (mainly William, which is a popular fan theory and seems to have been hinted at)? Which hosts are still obeying Ford's orders? What is Dolores' plan for the Valley Beyond - now known to be called the Forge? What exactly is the Maze? Is Maeve in trouble (the penultimate episode suggested this but this cannot be the case because she is my favorite). And the questions go on and on. If you like fan theories, or want to validate your own, we highly recommend diving into Reddit , where you can spend days reading everyone's thoughts on the answers to all of these questions and more. The finale certainly won't answer all lingering questions (and will undoubtedly raise 1000 more), but we certainly hope it can end with enough resolution that we aren't left tearing our hair out in confusion while we wait (hopefully not 2 years) for the next season. Prepare to talk about: If you enjoyed Season 2 as much as Season 1; how long we'll have to wait for Season 3; how confused we are.   Rachel is the product manager of SideReel, and she's dead serious when she tells you that you should watch Hart of Dixie . p { text-align: justify; }
