ABC addresses 'Glass House' controversy: 'It was totally worth it'

At Friday's ABC executive session at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour, ABC President of Entertainment Paul Lee was asked about the "Glass House" controversy. The voyeuristic reality show closely mirrored CBS's long-running "Big Brother" -- to the point where CBS filed suit against ABC.Perhaps the most damaging move by CBS, though, was not the suit, but a scathing, sarcastic press release meant to embarrass ABC for their apparent lack of originality. "Oh, it was totally worth it," Lee said of the controversy. "We were right, in the lawsuit, and that lawsuit is over."His sentiment is odd, considering "Glass House" premiered with disappointing ratings and only dipped further in subsequent episodes. "We wanted to really take a swing at that genre. Our twist was to make sure that, in the 21st century, you could have people, in their social networks, determine what was going on in the house," he says.
