Review of The Good Fight

Thursdays, 3:00 AM ET on CBS All Access

60 minutes

The show picks up one year after the events of The Good Wife's finale and stars Good Wife vets Christine Baranski, Cush Jumbo and Sarah Steele (reprising their respective roles as Diane, Lucca and Marissa). In the new series, an enormous financial scam has destroyed the reputation of Diane’s goddaughter, Maia (Game of Thrones‘ Rose Leslie), while simultaneously wiping Diane’s savings. Forced out of Lockhart & Lee, they join Lucca at one of Chicago’s pre-eminent law firms.

I have to say I wasn't really expecting a lot from the spinoff (TGW was indeed a truly amazing show, but I didn't see a future without Alicia), however, I must say that TGF delivered, which goes to show the incredible writing team behind it! And hey, swear words FTW! 'Though it has a lot in common with the flagship series, The Good Fight ultimately blows up The Good Wife’s narrative.'

As a die hard fan of the TGW, I must say the writing and the delivery by most of the actors was great (Maia character/actor was a bit annoying as well as the actress who plays her mother)! Just saw the first episode and I totally concur with the previous review. By the end of the first episode my initial question of how the spinoff would deal without Alicia, no longer needed to be answered, since the show stood on its own strength! Hope it continues this way!

Season 2 update: I can confirm that season 2 not only proved a future without TGW, but also proved that yes, it's even better than TGW. There's something just incredible about this show (mostly the writing and performance) that puts this show on top of my 'the best shows currently airing' list.
